Vadim doesn't get along very well with the thieves he is surrounded by, or the local clerk. He finds himself in the middle of a local showdown, and is forced to flee to save his own life. He hides out in the home of a young girl named Natalia, where he finds the love which gives him the strength to live through the hellish hardships of the gulag.
