Read by Vyacheslav Gerasimov. Duration: 1 hour, 24 min.Feudalism was still present in mid-century Russia, and this created a class struggle in Russian society. In the short story "Mumu", author Ivan Turgenev demonstrates how feudalism works through the events concerning a lonely old baroness and her serfs. Deaf since birth, Gerasim is used to unquestioningly fulfilling the baroness' every whim. The capricious woman is extremely powerful and acts selfishly towards her serfs. While it is a story about class in Russian society, it is also a tender refelction on the power of sympathy with another human being's pain.
