School library. Duration: 21 hours. The novel "Oblomov" (1859) has been remarkably successful and sparked heavy debates. Critics on one side have interpreted Oblomov as a symbol of Russia's stagnation, since the hero of the novel is particulary intert and apathetic. Others see a philosophical interpretation of Russian character in the novel, especially regarding a morality which is opposed to the vanity of all-absorbing progress. Literary critics aside, readers have the opportunity to experience one of Goncharov's finest works, complete with subtle psychology, glimpses into the spiritual depths of the hero, gentle humor and the author's characteristic lyricism.
