Read by Vyacheslav Gerasimov. Duration: 11 hours, 26 min."The Gambler" takes place in the town of Roulettenburg, a city made up by the author but based on an actual German town. The main character, much like the author, is addicted to gambling, especially roulette... The main character in "Notes from the Underground" is the Underground Man, a generalization of a certain type of person. The Underground Man shuts out the rest of the world, is incredibly embittered and cannot fulfill himself or see the world in front of him, and instead can only see hypocrisy, stupidity and corruption. He doesn't want, like all those around him, to bow down to the law or accept conventional rules. In his opinion, a person should be free to give himself up to his desires and caprices and not be a slave to benefits or mathematical equations. This is the fascinating portrait of a man told as only Dostoevsky could tell it; Dostoevsky takes the reader into the mind of a lunatic only to show his audience that his madness is common to all of us.
